Length & FormPosts can be between 100 and 1000 words, but it is best to aim for between 300 and 750 words.
To make posts engaging and to increase readership it is good to include visual/audio/video sources as well as hyperlinks within text.
Submission formatPosts should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org as MS Word documents.
Hyperlinks should be inserted within the document, as you wish them to appear in your post (instructions on how to insert hyperlink in a MS Word document).
Visual images, videos and audio files should be attached to your email as separate files. Indicate on your MS Word document where your attached objects should appear, as follows:
[INSERT ATTACHED FILE: file name]
Images should be in jpeg format, audio files as mp3s and videos as mp4s. Sources should be compressed to under 100MB.
Author BiographyPlease include together with your blog post, a short biography (50 - 150 words) and, if you are willing, a photograph. You are welcome to include hyperlinks within your biography text to institutions, projects and publications. Your biography (and photograph) will be added to the blog author biographies page.
PermissionsIn submitting a blog post and associated materials, authors are responsible for ensuring their writing is their own and that they have required any necessary permissions for the use of sources.
Ideas for blog postsBlog posts are welcome on all topics relating to the history of education (and the teaching of history). Blog post ideas include:
- Reflections on an historical source (photograph, picture, letter, newspaper article, piece of legislation, object...)
- Accounts of the history of an educational institution, network or society
- Biographies of the educational experiences or educational work of a person (famous or not) from the past (recent or distant)
- Posts relating a current issue in education to events in the past
- Pieces on methods relating to the history of education
- Reflections on developments and experiences in the teaching of the history of education
- Reviews of texts/volumes/articles related to the history of education
- Reviews of events (HES events and other relevant events)
